Gamescholar, n., person learned in the history, culture, theory and criticism of games, especially digital games.

The academic study of computer and videogames is a new and rapidly developing subject. Over the last decade, gamescholars in the UK have led the way in showing how games are worthy of the kind of detailed critical attention given to other forms of popular culture and new media, such as film, television and the internet. BA Game Studies at London Metropolitan University is one of the first dedicated programmes in the UK to enable you to develop in-depth knowledge of digital games and game cultures. Our students combine Game Studies with a wide variety of other subjects so as to pursue personal interests and potential career paths, whether directly within the game industry or in associated fields. See the links on the right for further information.
